Fire officials are reporting only minor damage after a small fire broke out at the historic Saint John City Market.
Platoon Chief Kevin Comeau said fire crews were called to the uptown building just after 9 p.m. Thursday.

Comeau said fire crews quickly put out the fire and were able to contain the blaze to the area where it started.
“Crews were on scene for approximately an hour,” he said.
No injuries were reported and fire officials have not revealed the cause of the fire.
The City of Saint John and officials with the market praised the quick response of fire officials on social media.
“We know that the public was as concerned as we were when the calls came in,” the city said in a Facebook post. “Crews were able to get the fire under control quickly, and (thankfully) there is no further risk to the building.”
The market, atrium and pedway are all open to the public as of Friday morning.
“We extend recognition to our Market staff and Saint John Fire Department for reporting and responding [to] the fire as quickly as possible and keeping our historic City Market safe from any irreparable damage.”
