Saint John is seeking an experienced business operator or entrepreneur with a new vision for the former Cherry Brook Zoo.
Expressions of interest are being sought for the 30-acre property, located on the northern edge of Rockwood Park in Millidgeville.
The zoo operated there for more than four decades until officials announced its closure last May due to “severe financial pressures” caused by COVID-19.
“This site is viewed by the City as having great potential for outdoor recreational activities that would contribute to more meaningful utilization of this area by the general public and the local economy,” the city said in its expression of interest.
“Although the Property is outside of the Rockwood Park boundaries, with the right vision and operator/tenant, development of this Property will support other amenities located in the Rockwood Park, including the vast trail system that is in place.”
The city is looking for someone with “the right vision and project” who is interested in a long-term lease. They must also be able to operate without financial help from the city.
Expressions of interest can be submitted until March 31.
