Three new constables have joined the ranks of the Saint John Police Force.
Evan Crook, Arlene Palmer and Ryan Wilson took the oath of office during a small ceremony Monday, according to a news release from the force.
Crook comes from the RCMP in western Canada while Palmer and Wilson are recent graduates of the Atlantic Police Academy.
Palmer spent time with the Halifax Regional Police Force while Wilson completed his on-the-job training with Saint John police.
All three officers will begin their new roles effective immediately.
In December, Saint John’s outgoing police chief Stephan Drolet said they planned to hire six new cadets early this year to replace retired senior staff.
Meanwhile, the search is still on for someone to replace Drolet, who stepped down from his role effective Feb. 20 due to “personal reasons.” He had joined the force less than a year earlier after 27 years with the RCMP, most recently serving as British Columbia’s deputy criminal operations officer.
Tony Hayes, who was named deputy chief in late October, will lead the force for the time being.
The Saint John Police Commission is working with third-party consulting firm Organization Consulting Limited (OCL) to help find Drolet’s replacement. OCL was the same consulting firm used during the search for Drolet.
Applications for the force’s top job were being accepted until Feb. 19.
