A shooting victim is speaking out following an incident outside Riverview High School last month.
Chris Leger is a teacher at the school who was injured on January 5.
The Anglophone East School District has released the statement on his behalf.
The official statement from Chris Leger:
The night of January 5 was shocking, bringing to life what I’ve only seen on the news or read in fiction. Since that night, however, my family has experienced overwhelming care and support from family, friends, colleagues, and the community.
Within the first minutes, I saw how the good in the world swells when there is need, as my friend and colleague came to my aid, followed shortly after by two others. In the weeks following, our kids saw first hand the power of empathy and love through the kindness of others.
Thank you to the local businesses who donated their time and materials, to the co-workers and friends who filled our fridge and freezer with meals, to others who gave their strength to help shovel and clean, and to the long list of people who are still asking how they can help. Most importantly, thank you to those at school and in the community looking out for our kids. Lastly, I’d like to thank everyone who knew it was me for keeping my name private during the last two months. It gave us time to focus on each other as a family.
– Chris Leger
