Saint Johners may be in for a reality check courtesy of a quintessential New Brunswick winter morning on Tuesday.
Environment Canada is calling for strong winds gusting up to 70 kilometers per hour beginning this evening, bringing a wind chill of -23 overnight and -29 tomorrow morning.
Jill Maepea, meteorologist with Environment Canada, says we’re expected to see a system bringing in cold air that we’ve mostly been spared from this winter.
“We haven’t seen a lot of these kind of systems, normally we get several,” Maepea said. “I think this winter has been somewhat abnormal, so this is kind of a return to normal.”
Tomorrow’s forecast also comes with a frostbite warning, and residents are encouraged to bundle up and not to leave too much skin exposed.
Despite the drop down to frigid temperatures, the remainder of this week’s forecast looks like a return to milder temperatures.
“Tuesday morning will by far feel the coldest of all the week,” said Maepea. “We are going to remain slightly below normal March averages, but your temperatures will still be highs of minus one or two, which really isn’t that bad.”
Maepea says the region should see a fair amount of sun this month, keeping us from hitting the usual lows of January or February over the next few weeks.
