Fire departments in St. Stephen, St. George and Oak Bay helping out firefighters from Saint Andrews with a fire Monday afternoon in Bayside.
Saint Andrews fire Chief Kevin Theriault says crews were called to the house fire about 2 p.m.
“Upon arrival [fire crews] found a house with heavy fire showing and a smoke conditions. Started attack lines. We were on scene for about six hours,” Theriault said
Theriault said the people living in the house got out safely but a dog perished in the fire.
The Canadian Red Cross said five people were displaced by the fire, including a woman who lived on the main level and another woman with three young children who lived in the basement apartment.
Due to the location along Route 127, Theriault said the road had to be closed for a while.
The cause of the fire is being examined by the provincial fire marshal’s office.
Theriault said the home suffered “severe fire damage”.
