Saint John Energy customers are in for a rate increase at the end of the month.
The city’s utility announced rates will go up 1.8 per cent starting March 31 rates.
The hike is a response to an Energy and Utilities Board decision allowing N.B. Power to raise its prices by 1.8 per cent.
Customers with water heater rentals will also see an uptick averaging around 43 cents per unit.
A press release issued Monday morning stated the rate increase will ‘enable Saint John Energy to continue to provide safe and reliable services.’
“Saint John Energy’s rates will remain among the lowest in the region,” the statement reads. “On average, residential rates are 10 per cent lower than elsewhere in the province.”
