This week Elections NB is sending out mail to confirm voter information for the upcoming municipal elections.
Paul Harpelle is the Director of Communications for Election New Brunswick who says voters will receive a bright yellow envelope with their current personal information.
“They are asking New Brunswickers to call us if any of the information that we have for the people listed on the envelope is incorrect,” said Harpelle.
The most common reasons for incorrect information include name changes, moving addresses or recently becoming eligible to vote.
While voters will still be allowed to change their information when they vote in person, an accurate list allows for a smoother process at the polls.
Harpelle says Elections NB has made it a priority to ensure a seamless voting process, and they encourage electors to consider the advance polls on May 1st and 3rd.
“It’s all about flattening the election curve, to try and spread out the vote over the duration of the election to avoid crowds and lineups,” Harpelle said.
Voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballot at a polling station, a returning office or through the mail.
The latter will have an online portal starting on Monday, March 22, that allows voters to create and send in an application for a vote-by-mail-package.
Harpelle noted that New Brunswickers who opt to vote by mail will still have to wait until April 19th to do so.
A call centre has been established by Elections New Brunswick that allows people to call 1-888-858-8683 and update their voter information or ask questions.
