Although it may feel like the process had already begun, Monday is the official start of the May 10 elections.
Municipal returning offices are now open to the public giving candidates their first opportunity to bring in nomination papers.
The election will fill out positions on municipal council, district education council, and the regional health authority board.
While the deadline to submit the papers is April 9, Chief Electoral Officer Kim Poffenroth has urged candidates to do so in advance.
Anyone looking to enter the elections can do so by scheduling an appointment with a local returning officer or electronically through an email or fax.
Now is also the first opportunity for voters to apply for a vote-by-mail package if they wish to avoid in person voting. However, voters who opt to receive the mail package will still have to wait until printed ballots are available to cast their vote
The elections had originally been planned for spring of 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic caused them to be postponed.
