Eager travellers itching to get away are thrilled to hear about the return of air travel in Atlantic Canada.
Earlier this week, WestJet announced flights will return in Moncton, Fredericton, Charlottetown and Sydney on June 24th which is called “very encouraging news” by the acting president at the Saint John Airport.
Greg Hierlihy said flights can be booked now for travel in June and encouraged people to have a look for when they are ready to travel.
“It’s scheduled for June 1st. It’s all dependent on demand and on travel conditions,” Hierlihy said.
Hierlihy said travel restrictions would have to ease to drive any real demand for flights.
As for what this means for pandemic recovery overall, Hierlihy said “it’s a very positive sign”.
“People are looking to have some freedom again. There is certainly a large pent up demand for travel for visiting family, friends and for leisure travel,” Hierlihy said.
