Questions are being raised surrounding the Atlantic bubble, with a rise in COVID-19 cases in New Brunswick.
But Health Minister Dorothy Shepard says it’s a matter of remaining vigilant, “At this time, we don’t think that the Atlantic bubble is at risk, but as Dr. Russell says when you have over a thousand people isolating, we don’t know what is going to come out of that.”
She says a high percentage of cases in the province right now are the variant, ” It is highly transmissible, so we are just monitoring on a day to day basis. The Premiers are staying in touch”
The Atlantic bubble is expected to open by April 19th.
“Our goal is to get there. That’s why we need our public to support us. Let’s get to the other side of this as quickly as possible. People stop moving, COVID stops moving,” Shepard says.
Public Health reported 14 new cases of COVID-19 throughout the province on Tuesday, with eight new cases in the Edmundston health region (Zone 4), all contacts of previous cases.
There were also four new cases in the Moncton region (Zone 1) and one each in the Saint John (Zone 2) and Fredericton (Zone 3) health regions. All are all travel-related.
There are 126 active cases, with more than 1,000 people in self-isolation as of Tuesday. Five people are currently in the hospital, two of which require intensive care.
