New Brunswick residents are now paying more for their electricity.
NB Power rates have climbed by 1.8 per cent effective Wednesday.
The rate increase was approved by the Energy and Utilities Board in December.
But the utility said it asked for the increase to be delayed “to support New Brunswickers experiencing hardships” due to the pandemic.
“Revenue from the rate increase will allow NB Power to invest in reliability, including the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the provincial electricity system,” the utility said in a news release.
“It also supports continued grid modernization investments which will benefit all New Brunswickers.”
Meanwhile, Saint John Energy customers will also see their rates increase by 1.8 per cent as a result of NB Power’s increase.
That is because the municipal utility purchases its power from the Crown corporation.
Customers with water heater rentals will also see an uptick averaging around 43 cents per unit.
