Police say a body found in the Saint Andrews area last weekend was that of a 68-year-old woman missing since early December.
Mounties say they were called to Navy Island on Saturday afternoon after someone found a body along a rocky area.
They say an autopsy positively identified the body as that of a woman reported missing on Dec. 8.
Wilhelmina (Wilma) Catherine Montgomery was last seen in Saint Andrews around noon Dec. 7 and was reported missing the next day.
One week later, police announced the search had turned into a recovery effort as they believed Montgomery had gone into the water.
“Even though this is not the outcome we were hoping for, we are glad to be able to bring closure to the family,” says Sgt. Christopher Henderson with the Saint Andrews RCMP.
Police do not believe criminality was a factor in her death.
RCMP offered appreciation to the members of the community, partner agencies and specialized policing services for their assistance throughout the investigation.
