Canadians have spent the last year at home, forbidden from travelling or indulging in many other costly habits.
Now they are prepared to treat themselves by giving their lives an upgrade, as over 60% of Canadian homeowners plan to renovate their properties in the next two years.
That is according to the recent findings from a Scotiabank housing poll conducted this year.
Among those looking to renovate, a quarter plan on starting projects in the next six months. The most common areas that were expected to receive an update are bathrooms, backyards and kitchens.
While some may opt to front the bill using their home equity, the poll showed that most Canadians are prepared to use their savings after what may have been a less expensive year for some.
The findings do supply somewhat of a surprise as the country’s housing market continues to set records as buyers take advantage of low-interest rates.
Atlantic Canadians have particularly been in favour of finding a new residence, with just 24% indicating that financial restrictions will stop them from buying a home.
The survey received results from over 3000 participants across the country.
