The Kraft Hockeyville win was the first step for Elsipogtog First Nation, now the planning begins for repairs to the Chief Young Eagle Recreation Centre.
Elsipogtog First Nation received the most votes to become the Kraft Hockeyville for 2021.
They’ll receive $250,000 dollars and the chance to host an NHL game.
Their Recreation Centre was badly damaged by fire around six months ago. They also lost thousands of dollars worth of equipment for youth.
Band Council member Ruth Levi says this week, they met with members of Kraft, “Things have begun moving this week. We did take Monday off just to bask in our glory and reflect on the support that Canada gave us during this campaign. For next week when we meet a few more people from the NHL and Kraft Hockeyville, we have to order the products. We cannot make our own, we have to go through them. There are a lot of rules and regulations.”
Levi says they are also planning a celebration parade for April 24th at 2pm on the First Nation.
“There are a lot of happy people. To see the smiles on the people and the joy on peoples face that the hard work paid off,” Levi says.
