Residents in southwestern New Brunswick will have more opportunities to access counselling services.
The Compassionate Grief Centre, based in Rothesay, has expanded into Charlotte County.
CEO Jamie Godfrey said they knew they wanted to expand from the start, but first Rothesay and Saint John needed to know they were covered.
“We decided Charlotte County is an amazing small community that is experiencing grief as well and they need to know that we’re there and we’re there to take care of them too,” she said.
After opening the centre’s office space at 53 Clark Road in Rothesay in August, a variety of free community support programs were offered.
Counselling is offered virtually, which Godfrey said has helped people become more comfortable accessing services, but a new clinic location may open depending on the demand.
Godfrey said they hope to help reduce waitlists for counselling services in the area.
“It’s not just the death of a loved one, it’s the death of a life we once knew. We’re all grieving, I’m grieving, I’m sure you’re grieving. I miss doing things that I’ve done two years ago, I miss going on trips, I miss doing a lot of different things,” she said.
