Anyone living in Saint John’s south central peninsula with a certain income can have their taxes prepared for free.
It’s part of the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program offered through organizations like P.U.L.S.E., also known as People United In The Lower South End.
Operations Manager Mary Lesage says the way they offer the service this year is a little different.
“With Covid, we just have people drop off their taxes and then we get them back to them in two to three business days,” Lesage said.
Lesage said they prepare about one thousand returns a year and most of the returns they prepare are for people with a simple tax situation.
“Seniors who have Old Age Security and Canada Pension Plan. We have low income [people] that would be on social assistance and would have one slip. That would be the majority of our clients. 50 to 75 per cent would be that,” Lesage said.
Lesage said they also get a few people who are self-employed or have a slightly more complex tax situation.
