Brenan’s Funeral Homes has purchased the oldest funeral home on the city’s west side.
Castle Fallsview Funeral Home on Lancaster Avenue hit the market earlier this year.
Brenan’s announced Thursday afternoon that it had purchased the west side landmark.
Will MacMackin, vice-president of the Brenan Group Ltd., said they first began serving the west side in 1992 when they opened the Bay View location.
“Since then, it’s been a great working relationship on the west side,” he said. “We had the opportunity to purchase the Castle Funeral Home and saw a great opportunity to expand our service offerings and serve the west side of the city in a much better manner.”
He says they plan to keep operating both west side locations for now but are considering winding down operations at the Bay View location eventually.
President Robyn MacMackin said they aren’t currently planning further expansions.
“William and I came in and bought Brenan’s in 2019 and this business as well, it’s been quite a ride,” she said. “We’re just looking at running the businesses as best we can for now.”
Castle Fallsview’s current manager Nancy Matthews and funeral director Emily Bailey will stay on in their roles after the sale.
All existing funeral plans will also be honoured.
