The organization responsible for collecting, processing, and recycling all non-alcoholic beverage containers at New Brunswick redemption centres has launched a program to reduce litter in the province.
Encorp Atlantic announced the second edition of the “Be a Recycling Hero” campaign.
Started in 2020, the program encourages New Brunswickers to take a zero-tolerance policy on littering, hold others accountable when they litter, and make sure empty beverage containers are recycled.
Pierre Landry is the general manager of Encorp Atlantic.
“It is important to understand that beverage containers are not single-use – they are certainly not meant to end up in landfills nor on the side of the road, in parks, on beaches, or trails, as litter,” said Landry.
The campaign starts in the spring to help clear the streets of what’s leftover from colder months.
“After the winter, there’s usually litter hanging about in our communities,” said Landry.
To help spread awareness for the program, ads will be featured on recycling bins, city buses, electronic billboards, and television screens in restaurants and supermarkets, as well as in newspapers, on websites, and on social media.
