New Brunswick’s child and youth advocate is seeking input as part of a review into youth suicide prevention and mental health services.
A community survey has been launched online to gather feedback and collect data to help with the review.
Local consultation sessions will also take place virtually across the province from May 18 to June 7.
“In order to complete a thorough review and to identify support and systems to minimize the risk of youth suicide, my team and I want to hear first-hand from New Brunswickers who wish to share their stories,” said Norm Bossé in a statement.
“I want anyone in communities across the province to have a chance to ask questions and be part of the solution in this review process.”
The review was prompted by the death of 16-year-old Lexi Daken, who took her life after waiting hours to see a psychiatrist at the Fredericton hospital.
In addition to looking at Daken’s death, the review will also look at how young people are experiencing access to youth mental health services and suicide prevention and intervention services, and how their families are supported in relation to these services.
Interim findings and recommendations are expected later this spring and the final report will be released in July.
