If you’ve ever wanted to work on a farm, now would be a good time to apply.
The New Brunswick Agricultural Alliance has said more employees are needed all across the spectrum.
President Lisa Ashworth said labour shortages continue to be an ongoing issue for farmers.
“We’ve had record unemployment in Canada but we’re still struggling to get people to work on farms. I think it’s largely due to the nature of the work,” she noted.
Ashworth said the industry also needs to have Mother Nature on their side this time of year.
“Many producers are adapting or adopting technologies that help to mitigate the impacts. For example if you have sprinkler systems for apple trees and things like that so that if we do have frost we’re learning to manage that.”
Ashworth adds a late frost can be devastating for crops like blueberries or apples if already in blossom.
Many parts of New Brunswick were hit by a hard frost in early June last year.
