Federal funding will help out the Saint John Airport in two ways.
The airport will get a portion of $65 million in the Airport Relief Fund, a new program set up to offer financial relief to help Canadian airports keep going.
Interim president and CEO Greg Hierlihy said he expects YSJ will get about $1 million.
“For last year and this year, our operating cash flow is in the magnitude of negative $3.6 million. It’s certainly a welcome amount of money. We have suffered significant losses over the last year,” Hierlihy said.
Hierlihy believes the Saint John Airport could also be in line for $575,000 through the Airport Capital Assistance Fund to complete improvements this year
He said they plan to “improve our apron flood lighting and to also replace some lifecycle equipment related to our electrical distribution to our airfield lighting.”
Hierlihy said Air Canada flights are set to return on June 29, Flair Airlines will launch on July 2, and PAL Airlines in August.
Porter Airlines may also be offering flights locally by June 21, he said.
Hierlihy noted all of this is subject to change depending on the COVID situation in Canada at the time.
