Acadia Broadcasting Limited, the parent company of this radio station announced Thursday it’s growing again, and will assume ownership and operation of two Halifax-based radio stations beginning May 14.
The acquisition of Hot Country 103.5 and Jewel 105 from HFX Broadcasting Inc., a subsidiary of Evanov Communications Inc. comes after approval last month by the Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission which granted Acadia the authority to acquire both radio stations.
Chris Pearson, President of Acadia Broadcasting Limited says the company is thrilled to be taking over operations for both stations effective Friday.
“I am confident the team we have will serve the city and surrounding communities with relevant locally focused content, great on-air entertainment in addition to supporting local charitable and nonprofit organizations as we do at all of our Acadia stations,” said Pearson.
Station Manager for Hot Country 103.5 and Jewel 105, Scott Pettigrew confirms the acquisition of both stations promises a renewed approach to local programming, further complementing Acadia’s strong community focus in Atlantic Canada.
“You know radio was the original social media – as it was how community information got shared and we still believe that is true today. It is why we are heavily invested in live and local programming including locally generated news,” said Pettigrew.
“While Halifax is the largest community in Atlantic Canada, it hasn’t lost that small-town feel. Acadia Broadcasting has always prided itself in its commitment to giving back because if our community is strong, our business is strong,” Pettigrew added.
With the addition of Hot Country 103.5 and Jewel 105, Acadia Broadcasting Limited now owns and operates 17 stations across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Ontario.
