Big Brothers Big Sisters Saint John’s Bowling For Kids’ Sake is embracing and encouraging participants to “bowl their own way” for its 2021 fundraiser.
“What we’ve had to do is look at it a little differently and think about what would be fun for folks because it’s always a favorite fundraising activity for teams, businesses and family teams,” said Laurie Collins, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saint John. “We want it to be fun and we also want to be the successful fundraiser that it usually is.”
The first simple step is to decide how your team bubble will participate. From scheduling a time at the bowling alley with COVID-19 precautions, virtually bowling through one of BBBS Saint John’s recommended online bowling games or apps, or creatively coming up with a way to bowl at home (or on the beach or the office).
Collins says each team can register by:
- Submitting the team registration form by email to: laurie.collins@bigbrothersbigsisters.ca;
- Register the team on the event website using the team registration form;
- Call Big Brothers Big Sisters Saint John at 635-1145;
After registering, each team is eligible for prizes and is sent their captain’s kit, and information on how to book their Fairview Lane time if they selected to bowl at the bowling alley.
“Normally we would have about 80 teams across all events,” said Collins, adding that usually 50 of the teams are from the public with an estimated 32 teams from their fundraising partners. “We have about ten [teams] confirmed and then there’s probably another 10-to-20 that I know are working on teams.”
Bowling teams have an option of using paper pledge sheets or the BBBS Saint John online platform (or use both) to collect donations, as well as run fundraising activities such as selling raffle tickets.
Every dollar raised goes directly to helping the kids of BBBS Saint John.
The fundraiser’s five days of self-designed challenges and competition runs from May 25 to May 29.
