With the rest of New Brunswick eagerly awaiting results from last Monday’s municipal vote, Saturday is a time for advance voting in the Edmundston-Madawaska region.
Edmundston and some surrounding communities in Health Zone 4 went into a 17-day COVID-19 lockdown at midnight on April 11, suspending all elections activity until conditions improved April 27.
Saturday is one of two days for residents in that zone to cast their vote at an advanced poll, with the next opportunity coming Monday, May 17.
Municipalities where elections were suspended and delayed by the April lockdown include Edmundston, Haut-Madawaska, Lac Baker, Sainte-Anne-de-Madawaska and Saint-Léonard. The suspended elections also delayed races for Francophone Northwest School Subdistrict 3 as well as Vitalité Health Network’s Subregion A3.
People in those communities will also be able vote by special ballot directly at the Edmundston returning office from Monday to Saturday up to and including election day.
For the rest of the province, Elections NB says all tabulation machines and ballots cast in the May 10 elections were shipped to a secure location in Fredericton last week. Voting machines there are being kept under lock and key in a facility equipped with an alarm and around the clock video surveillance.
Election Day for Edmundston-Madawaska is Tuesday, May 25, on which Elections NB is set to release all results for the province after polls close that same evening.
