After New Brunswick became the first province to offer online testing for drivers last fall, Service New Brunswick has added a new online motorcycle test.
The test, which is already available online, is an add-on to the previously launched written beginner driver test.
New riders writing the motorcycle test still have to complete a motorcycle safety course as part of the province’s graduated licencing system for the vehicles, which has been in effect since 2015.
The motorcycle road test itself is something Service New Brunswick Minister Mary Wilson says was in high demand last year.
“Last year due to COVID we offered the test through the motorcycle safety courses, but this year we have moved the test online,” said Service New Brunswick Minister Mary Wilson in a release. “The motorcycle road test will also be available this year, however we expect demand to be high and we ask for patience when trying to book it.”
As of Friday, The Driver Examination On-Line Booking Service on Service NB’s web site was “temporarily closed until further notice,” referencing users to instead contact Service New Brunswick’s TeleServices to book a road test appointment.
Written examinations online are shown in bundled groups, with the latest additions showing one for drivers seeking Class 6H or 6I Licence (Motorcycle Learner’s Permit) with the added criteria of completing the motorcycle course.
Another added group is for drivers seeking Class 9 Licence Motor-Driven cycle, or moped or scooter 50cc or less classification.
Either class includes three testing components, a Road Sign Recognition Exam, Rules of the Road Non-Commercial Knowledge Exam and Rules of the Road Motorcycle/Motor Driven Cycle Knowledge Exam.
Once passing the written test, and completion of the motorcycle safety course, new riders can then complete the license process in person at any Service NB location, (except in Campobello) which includes a standard vision test.
