The Vitalité Health Network is reiterating the importance of Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre as a Francophone health care institution.
Finding a viable solution to the cracks in New Brunswick’s healthcare system has brought the Moncton hospital under a microscope after ambulances were diverted from the facility due to nurse shortages.
While there have been public statements suggesting that Vitalité and Horizon health networks find ways to collaborate, the former fears this could compromise its mission.
In a news release, Dr. France Desrosiers, president and CEO, stated, “It is imperative that the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC continue its mission as a Francophone university hospital centre. Any solution to the current human resources challenges must not come at the expense of this mission.”
The message was similar throughout the network, including the Board of Directors.
“The Regional Health Authorities Act stipulates that we have the responsibility to improve the delivery of health services in the French language. The Board will never let the Dr. Georges-L-Dumont UHC crumble,” said Chairperson Michelyne Paulin.
Meanwhile, the New Brunswick Nurses Union continues to look to regional health authorities and the premier for a fix to its staffing woes.
President Paula Doucet previously said that with hundreds of vacancies across the province, they’re tired of “band-aid solutions.”
