Saint John is celebrating its 236th birthday on Tuesday.
It was on this day in 1785 that Saint John became the first incorporated city in what is now known as Canada.
It is also Loyalist Day in the Port City, marking the 238th anniversary since the landing of the Loyalists in 1783.
May 18 was officially proclaimed Loyalist Day 200 years later in 1983 by the lieutenant-governor at the time, George F.G. Stanley.
The 3rd Field Artillery Regiment will commemorate Tuesday with a 21-gun salute at the Armouries at noon. The event is not open to the public.
