The residents of St. George electing a political newcomer to lead the community over the next four years.
Mayor-elect John Detorakis said he excited to work with the primarily new council which includes only one incumbent.
He said it takes courage to step forward and offer to represent the interests of the town.
Detorakis will be joined on council by his daughter, Alexa Detorakis, who was elected as a new councillor.
“I give her credit for being the person who actually said ‘you should stop complaining about the things you don’t like and put your name forward and try. We need some young people to not only come to St. George but to assume some of the responsibility of moving the town forward,” Detorakis said.
Detorakis finished up with 222 votes, Sharon Tucker placed second with 197 votes followed by incumbent Faith Avery with 137 votes.
