The Canada Revenue Agency says it’s not too late to file your 2020 tax return.
Spokesperson Jeffrey Lansing says those who missed the April 30th deadline can easily file their return online.
“We understand some people can find tax filing is difficult, or they are afraid to take that first step,” Lansing said. “You can go on our website where there’s a step-by-step guide to get you going and get your taxes filed.”
Lansing encouraged everyone to get their taxes done to ensure you don’t miss out on benefits.
“You must file if you owe taxes, but even if you had no income last year or your income was tax-exempt, you should still file your taxes because you may be eligible to receive benefits and credits,” Explained Lansing.
Lansing said that they are aware that many Canadians are in difficult financial situations due to COVID-19 and may find themselves owing money.
He explains that due to the current realities associated with the current pandemic, that they are able to give more time and flexibility with payment arrangements.
Lansing also adds that even though the deadlines have passed there are community organizations are still hosting free tax clinics.
He said that If you have a low income and a simple tax situation, a volunteer may be able to complete and file your return virtually, or through a drop-off arrangement.
