The Crown has dropped charges against a doctor suspected of starting a COVID-19 outbreak in the Campbellton area.
Dr. Jean-Robert Ngola, who is of Congolese descent, was facing provincial offences under New Brunswick’s Emergency Measures Act.
His legal team says Dr. Ngola is demanding an apology from Premier Blaine Higgs especially for statements he made during a COVID-19 briefing in May 2020.
Although he wasn’t named, Higgs noted how an irresponsible health care worker had failed to self-isolate in the Campbellton area following an out-of-province trip.
The premier has repeatedly refused to apologize and maintains his position.
Dr. Ngola relocated to Quebec after receiving racial slurs and death threats and even required police protection.
Dr. Ngola has given the premier one week to apologize or he will instruct his lawyers to move forward with legal action.
