Saint John Energy has won an international award for its Smart Grid network.
The International Smart Grid Action Network selected the local utility as the winner of the 7th ISGAN Award of Excellence.
Saint John Energy’s Director of Corporate Development Kevin Colvey said the project began in 2018 with a goal to modernize their grid.
“It’s a very complex integrated project that includes smart energy resources as well as artificial intelligence and peak demand response,” Colvey said.
Colvey said a Smart Grid is about predicting what will happen from dishwasher use to when the wind will blow.
“The smart part of it a lot about information flow to predict what’s going to happen but it’s also having more technologically advanced devices and control systems and to re-jig the portfolio,” Colvey said.
Saint John Energy received its award in a ceremony from the Twelfth Clean Energy Ministerial Meeting hosted virtually by Chile.
Colvey said the award is significant because “it’s not just Canadians loving Canadians but global experts recognizing their project as one of the best in the world this year,”.
