Students at several local schools will be going home early or learning from home Tuesday.
It comes as temperatures are expected to reach the low 30s in some areas with humidex values in the low 40s.
Anglophone South School District students in the Sussex, Belleisle and St. Stephen areas will be dismissed early.
Students at Apohaqui Elementary, Norton Elementary, Sussex Elementary, Sussex Corner Elementary and Sussex Middle schools will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m., while students at Sussex Regional High School will go home at 1 p.m.
Belleisle Elementary and Belleisle Regional High schools will close for students at 12:15 p.m.
Students at St. Stephen Elementary, St. Stephen Middle, St. Stephen High, Milltown Elementary and Lawrence Station Elementary schools will go home at noon.
Meanwhile, students at most schools in the Francophone South School District will learn from home Tuesday.
A handful of schools will operate as normal, including Ecole Samuel-de-Champlain, as they have air conditioning or are located in areas where it’ll be a bit cooler.
The Anglophone West School District is also dismissing students early at 64 of its 69 schools.
Five schools with cooling systems will remain open, including Nashwaaksis Middle School and Royal Road Elementary School in Fredericton, Harvey High School, McAdam High School, and Minto Elementary Middle School.
All schools in the Anglophone East School District will have an early dismissal, starting with kindergarten to Grade 2 students at 11 a.m., Grade 3 to 8 students at 11:45 a.m., and high school students at 12:15 p.m.
Most students in the Anglophone North School District will also be going home early.
