Saint John Water crews are on Charlotte Street Tuesday after a water main broke along the uptown street.
The break caused a sinkhole on Charlotte near Harding Street, and the pavement cracked halfway down the block toward St. James Street.
An excavator and Saint John Water construction trucks are on the scene, as crews work to repair the damage.
Charlotte Street between Queen Street and St. James remains closed to traffic.
The city says that section of the street has been identified for its infrastructure renewal program, but it isn’t scheduled to be replaced until 2026.
Nearby residents are warned their could be water discolouration as a result of the main break. If your water looks off, the city recommends flushing your pipes by running cold water in the bathtub until it clears.
