Police continue to search for Stephen Perley, Jr. after a shooting incident that led to an emergency alert being issued in the Tobique Narrows and Perth-Andover areas.
RCMP has discovered Perley’s red, four-door Toyota Tacoma between Plaster Rock and Perth-Andover. Perley, who is considered armed and dangerous, is described as 5’10”, with a small build, brown hair and brown eyes.
An Alert Ready message has been issued to notify residents that they may now leave their homes but should proceed with caution.
Mounties say a man pointed and discharged a firearm in Medforth, north of Tobique Narrows, around 7:30 p.m. Friday and fled in a vehicle toward Perth-Andover.
Police say they tried to stop the vehicle on Route 105 in Tobique Narrows at 8:05 p.m.
“The driver of the vehicle discharged a firearm at police, and a police vehicle was struck by bullets,” the RCMP said in a news release.
According to police, no one was hurt and the driver of the vehicle fled the scene on a nearby road in a wooded area.
An Alert Ready message was issued for the area around 9:30 p.m. Friday telling residents to lock their doors, shelter in place, and stay away from windows.
“Please avoid the area and do not call 9-1-1 or police directly to seek additional information,” said a tweet from the RCMP.
Mounties are also asking people not to post information on social media about police locations or operations.
