Officials say a small fire broke that broke out at Rothesay High School on Thursday night caused minimal damage.
Shawn White, a division chief with the Kennebecasis Valley Fire Department, said crews were called to the school around 10:30 p.m.
“After investigating, crews found that the fire had started in one of the rooms but was quickly extinguished by the sprinkler system,” White said Friday morning.
Crews were on the scene for about an hour helping to remove water from the building, he said.
Jessica Hanlon, a spokesperson for the Anglophone South School District, said the fire occurred in a vent room at the school.
“The damage was very minimal and no smoke escaped into [the] main school area,” Hanlon said in an email.
She noted that there is no impact on school operations on Friday.
There is no word yet on what caused the fire but White said it is not suspicious at this time.
