Provincial reopening plans are a positive sign for the travel industry which has been severely battered by the pandemic.
Moncton area travel agent Lynn Gaudet says her office closed 15 months ago but she continues to work from home.
Many of her clients are taking a wait-and-see approach for summer given the uncertainty but some are looking further down the road.
“I do have some clients that have been in contact and are starting to plan and are booking for winter 2022, which is encouraging,” she notes.
Gaudet believes a recent decision by two major airlines was a huge relief for travellers whose trips were cancelled during the pandemic.
“Air Canada and Air Transat have refunded clients and they have protected our commission which was extremely generous of them. It was part of the agreement with the government that they had to pay travel agents.”
Gaudet is also applauding a federal government decision to end the mandatory hotel quarantine for returning travellers and is calling it more good news for the travel industry.
In an effort to help stimulate travel again, some airlines and tour operators are now offering great deals.
Gaudet adds she has already booked several trips for herself this fall and winter.
