Parkland Saint John will expand to include another nursing home.
Shannex will build and manage the new 60-bed facility with construction due to start this summer.
At an announcement in Saint John on Friday, Social Development Bruce Fitch talked about the importance of working together during January’s COVID-19 outbreak at Tucker Hall.
“It was a team effort between Shannex, the government, The PROMT team was one of the things created … Every component worked together and SD (social development) worked together to make those PROMT teams,” Fitch said.
Shannex President and CEO Jason Shannon also thanked Minister Fitch and the Public Health PROMT team for their help during the outbreak in January.
“So many wonderful people from DSD joined us in the fight from accounting clerks to the deputy minister. So thank you and please them for the contribution,” Shannon said.
The two-floor facility would have neighbourhoods for 30 residents on each floor.
Each neighbourhood would include a dedicated nursing station, dining room, living room, library, and activity space.
It will also have an indoor Main Street, a concept that allows residents to enjoy the experience of spending time on a small-town street with a multi-purpose room that serves as a chapel and theatre space along with a hair salon, café and town hall.
