With airlines scheduled to return in the next couple of weeks, the Saint John Airport is offering free long-term parking for travellers this summer.
Jacques Fournier, the airport’s commercial development director, said the authority thought it would be a good incentive to convince flyers to book tickets.
“We also wanted to give back to our travellers to hopefully entice them to fly out of Saint John and not have to drive to Fredericton or Moncton as we get our capacity back,” he said in a phone interview Friday.
The free long-term parking will be available from now until the end of August.
For Saint Johners who might be worried about flying again, Fournier says the Saint John Airport has taken all safety precautions inside its terminal, which hasn’t seen passenger traffic since mid-January.
Fournier feels the province has taken the right steps towards reopening, and that air travel will be a much lower risk than when the pandemic first started.
“We just want travellers to feel secure,” said Fournier. “I also want people to understand that we’re there to support them and that the airlines have taken all the precautions that they need to take.”
Earlier this week, the Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport announced it will offer on-site Covid-19 testing through a pilot project with Distribution Ad Valorem and Soins Proxyma Care.

While on-site testing isn’t in the cards for Saint John just yet, Fournier says there’s interest to bring the service to town if the partnership is successful in Moncton.
The first Air Canada flights will land in Saint John on June 29, with a scheduled departure set for June 30.

Still no word on when Porter Airlines will return, but flights to Halifax through PAL Airlines will start on Aug. 2.
Sunwing will start flying out of Saint John again by February 2022.
