The third named storm of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season is heading towards Atlantic Canada.
Claudette brought heavy rain and flash flooding to the southeastern United States where more than a dozen people died over the weekend.
Environment Canada meteorologist Jill Maepea says the storm will not directly impact most of the Maritimes.
“Claudette will pass south of Nova Scotia and that means all the winds and the heavy rain are expected to stay offshore mainly in marine districts.”
She says any impacts will be felt along Nova Scotia’s Atlantic coast with heavy rain and gusty winds although no significant waves or storm surge is expected.
Maepea says southern New Brunswick will see some much needed rain tomorrow but she adds Claudette is not the culprit – the moisture is coming from a separate low pressure system.
