The Creative Art Multimedia, (CAM) Institute is offering, Learn Fundamentals of Design, a 12-week summer program for those interested in learning design fundamentals.
The program will teach participants the basics of design, including the techniques and approaches people use to create an overall design aesthetic.
The institute formed in 2019 and is currently in the midst of moving to a new location on Rothesay Avenue.
CAM currently offers short three-month courses in graphic design and online advertising, photography and design, and digital art with its most intensive program being the two-year Advanced Graphics and Multimedia Course.
Topics covered in the summer program include design drawing, character design, clay sculpting and colour theory and is open to anyone aged 9-to-45.
“It will make you so solid in those areas that once you start progressing your designing career, you can move into any channel you can because you have understood the core principles of it,” says CAM Co-founder and Managing Director, Kamran Mohammed, who adds the course provides hands-on learning experiences.
“In one of the weeks, you’re going to run your hands over objects in a bucket full of water without looking at them,” he said. “Without looking at it, you’re going to just touch and feel it and you draw it, so it opens up your creativity.”
Mohammed says it all starts from the basics, including how each participant draws and how each understands patterns.
The design skills and knowledge learned from activities like human figure drawing, acrylic painting, perspective drawing and visualization can be applied to a variety of fields.
“You can design a product, you can design the shape of a character in visual effects, it can help you in industrial design, you can draw a machine,” he explains. “If you’re an artist you can make a face, then you can sketch it, colour it – it all starts from the basics.”
CAM’s Learn Fundamentals of Design course begins July 2.
