The Saint John Sea Dogs are gearing up for the 2021 QMJHL Entry Draft this weekend.
Round 1 goes Friday night and the Sea Dogs hold the final pick of the round, 20th overall.
Saint John will have another nine picks in rounds two through 14, which begins Saturday morning.
President Trevor Georgie said they are looking forward to adding some important pieces to the team’s future.
“We have a very healthy bank of assets over the next few drafts and quality players in all age groups,” said Georgie. “Accumulating assets and drafting well makes for long-term stability, and it also gives us the flexibility to add important pieces via trade as we did earlier this week.
The Sea Dogs made three trades this week ahead of this weekend’s entry draft.
They acquired Islanders prospect William Dufour from Drummondville and a fourth-round pick in 2022 in exchange for a first-round pick this year, a fifth-round pick in 2023, and forward Simon Hughes.
Saint John also sent overage forward Nicholas Girouard and a first-round pick in 2022 to Cape Breton in exchange for a first-round and second-round pick in 2023.
The team also added goaltender Ventsislav Shingarov and a 12th-round pick in 2022 from Baie-Comeau in exchange for a seventh-round and 12th-round pick in 2023.
Your Sea Dogs hold 10 picks as we head into the 2021 @QMJHL Entry Draft.
All the action starts tomorrow night at 7:30!
