Another turbulent year in education has come to an end with a successful week of graduation events.
The demands of the pandemic caused the District Education Council to operate on a one-year improvement plan.
Superintendent Zoe Watson said they did keep a focus on mental health including social and emotional learning.
“And that seemed to fit in very well with this pandemic year. We see students with a lot of their events and activities cancelled. A lot of things that weren’t able to do in schools. Students in bubbles staying with their group, high school blended learning,” Watson said.
Another focus of the district improvement plans was finding a way to include students who were unable to attend school for health reasons.
“Immunocompromised situations that had to be part of our plan, how we were going to accommodate those. At any given time we had 140 students on a home learning plan,” Watson said.
Other areas of focus were continued work on LGBTQ issues and tackling the subject of racism.
