Saint John has received federal funding to help combat climate change on the uptown peninsula.
The $45,000 contribution will go toward the city’s Flood Risk Mitigation Strategy in the Lower Cove Loop neighbourhood.
Funds will be used to develop an action plan to combat climate change in the uptown area which overlooks the Bay of Fundy.
“Such a strategy is critical as we maintain a focus on smart, sustainable development, and experience growth as a community of choice for people to live,” said Brent McGovern, the city’s commissioner of utilities and infrastructure, through a press release.
The funding, which came through the National Disaster Mitigation Program, is expected to cover half of the project.
The rest of the $90,000 dollar action plan will come directly from the city.
