The key to coping with summer heat in New Brunswick is using common sense or “sun-sense” according to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Wearing sunscreen, a hat, seeking shade or air conditioning are all good tips.
Spokesperson Michelle St. Pierre said applying sunscreen should be part of our summer routines.
“Wearing sunscreen in the summer is a bit like brushing your teeth in the morning. If you are someone who plans on spending time in the outdoors during the day that’s the best time to really do a good application,” St. Pierre said.
St. Pierre suggested people should try to avoid the midday sun.
“Avoiding peak time hours between 11 a.m and 3 p.m. That is the time of the day when the UVA’s are the strongest and UVB’s,” St. Pierre said.
Parents should ensure small children are wearing enough clothing to protect them.
She added babies can burn quickly and they should never be exposed to the sun for very long.
