The Food Depot Alimentaire wants to ensure kids don’t go without, even during the summer months.
During the school year, many rely on breakfast and lunch programs.
Now that classes are out, Executive Director Chantal Senecal says they are a part of a national program called ‘After the Bell’ through Food Banks Canada, “9000 school packs have been provided to us or families that have school aged children who normally rely on school programs. We will provide a pack a week to the child during the summer months.”
She says Food Banks Canada is also provided funding to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables to add to the packs.
“The food that is in the packs is actually healthy, nutritious snack items that they can have throughout the week. That’s a top up for what the food banks are already doing for families,” Senecal says.
