Hand sanitizer has been in high demand over the last year due to the pandemic.
The President and CEO for Moonshine Creek Distillery says they will continue making it , even as active cases numbers decline.
Jeremiah Clark says after speaking to Health Canada, they believe there will be a continued need, “The primary ingredient is something we make here. It seems to me from the discussions we are having with people in our industry that hand sanitizer will just be another product that Distilleries offer and have on their shelves. We’ve been told that it would be smart if we were prepared to continue making it in the case that anyone needs it.”
Clark says the demand right now is minimal, as compared to March last year,” We sell around 1000 litres a month right now. At the peak, we were doing upwards of 10, 000 litres a month.”
He says the transition to making this product was really a blessing in disguise in a pandemic, “When we lost tourism, bars shut down and even at some points NB Liquor, and we kind of had a blackout for purchasing. A lot of sales channels shut down on us, so really this saved out company.
Clark says with hand sanitizer sales during the peak in 2020, Moonshine Creek earned their annual gross income in just two months.
“It got us through some really tough times and now things feel like they are starting to come back around. It forced us to mature out business minds in away and look at problems under a new lens. I would say our company grew from this experience,” Clark says.
