The City of Saint John and the board of the Lord Beaverbrook Rink (LBR) have teamed up to provide free ice time on the west side.
It will see the LBR board given permission to operate the Peter Murray Arena for a new summer ice program.
The board of the LBR is working with local businesses to ensure the ice time is free for families.
Its expected more than 300 local hockey players can participate in the summer ice program.
An opening ceremony will be held at the Peter Murray Arena at 2 p.m. Sunday with members of council, the LBR board and the hockey community on hand.

Deputy Mayor John MacKenzie says he is pleased with the arrangement.
“This is the type of partnership that offers tremendous recreational benefit to youth in Saint John,” MacKenzie said in a news release.
Michael Simon, chair of the LBR board, agrees.
“Recreation is an important part of our everyday lives and the mandate of the LBR is to serve the youth of our city. We are excited to work with the City of Saint John, and local business partners, to offer this new summer initiative,” Simon said.
