The death toll in last month’s condo collapse in Surfside, Florida, continues to rise.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava says 90 people have now been confirmed dead.
“71 victims have been identified and their next-of-kin notified,” Levine Cava said during a news conference Sunday.
“Our hearts and minds are always with those we’ve lost and with the families who are grieving and those that are still waiting.”
As of Sunday morning, 217 people had been accounted for while 31 were considered potentially unaccounted for.
“We can only truly account for a missing person who is deceased once the identification is made,” said Levine Cava, “so the numbers are fluid and they will continue to change as all of these efforts continue.”
Officials have recovered 14 million pounds of concrete and debris from the site since the June 24 collapse.
