Travel restrictions at the U.S. border are extended another month.
Documents filed by the Department of Homeland Security indicate the restrictions on non-essential travel through its land ports will continue to August 21.
They were to expire at the end of today.
“Given the outbreak and continued transmission and spread of COVID-19 within the United
States and globally, the Secretary has determined that the risk of continued transmission and
spread of the virus associated with COVID-19 between the United States and Canada poses an
ongoing ‘specific threat to human life or national interests,’” writes the department.
All U.S citizens and any Canadian who works, goes to school or seeks medical treatment in the states are still permitted to cross.
The restrictions do not apply to Canadians who fly or take a train into the U.S. They are still subject to needing a negative COVID-19 test three days before arriving.
Monday, the Canadian government announced U.S. citizens can visit Canada beginning August 9 if they are fully vaccinated.
